Michael is a Partner at Convergent Research, where he helps scientists and ambitious research organizations move ideas toward impact.

Following a PhD in molecular microbiology at the University of Cambridge and postdoctoral work on the genetics of Type 1 Diabetes, he moved to Wellcome Trust HQ in London in 2000. He has had an extensive multi-decade career at Wellcome, leading on various large scale initiatives and most recently in the role of Director of the Discovery Research Programme he led on setting and implementing a new science strategy with a focus on funding ambitious research programmes, Institutes and Early Career fellowships.
